How does the scheme work?
Anyone certified by BSI under the BAFE SP207 scheme — for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of evacuation alert systems — will also qualify for the Kitemark.
This means they’ll be able to use both the BAFE registration logo and the BSI Kitemark when advertising and marketing their services — and win the trust of customers.
Scheme No. SP207 was launched in October 2020 to help ensure those living in high-rise buildings can be safely evacuated by the emergency services in the event of a fire.
In common with some of the other BAFE schemes, it’s modular. Organisations can become third-party certified (and then BAFE registered) for one or more of the following: design, installation, commissioning / handover and maintenance.
Companies are assessed against the recommendations of British Standard BS 8629 and the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 for England & Wales, the Fire (Scotland) Act and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland). This means customers and the relevant enforcing authorities, e.g. the Fire Authority and Building Control, can be confident that SP207 registered and Kitemarked companies are competent.
