A-head of the game: PPE Safety in Sports
In November at our Centre of Excellence in Hemel Hempstead, BSI hosted a thought provoking PPE seminar focused on protective headwear and the impact of head injuries in sport.
Luke Griggs from Headway (the brain injury association) stressed the importance of researchers and manufacturers having a better understanding of the real-life impact of brain injuries, in order to better inform product design. Roy Burek from Charles Owen (makers of the equestrian headwear) offered a manufacturers perspective, highlighting the role that standards play in both safety and continual improvement of protective equipment.
This unique event provided the opportunity for BSI to engage and strengthen relationships with sports associations and build awareness around the importance of PPE protection within sports. A special thanks to all those that made this event possible, and to those that attended.

2019 looks set to be a very busy year. With continued implementation of the PPE Regulation in April, we are expecting to be working closely with manufacturers to help provide as smooth transition as possible during this big industry change.
