BSI Committee Chairman Wins 11th Anniversary Lifetime Achievement Award

Bernard Berry, Chairman of BSI Committee EH/1 Acoustics, has collected a Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Noise Abatement Society (NAS) Anniversary Awards.

NAS honours key individuals who have made outstanding contributions to raising the profile of noise pollution as a critical environmental issue and who have worked tirelessly over the course of their careers to effect solutions for the public benefit.

Bernard Berry has been awarded this accolade for his continuing work and expert advice on the effects of noise. He has been a consultant to industry, governments and the EU and has collaborated on research projects with a number of organizations. He has also held the BSI Committee Chairman position for over 25 years and is currently an active member of ISO Working Group 45, representing the UK on the revision of ISO 1996 Acoustics - Description, measurement and assessment of environmental noise - Part 1: Basic quantities and assessment procedures.

In addition Bernard is an adviser to the World Health Organization (WHO) European Centre for Environment and Health (ECEH) in Bonn, and a member of the WHO Working Group on Aircraft Noise and Health.

The NAS Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes the great contribution Bernard has made to the world of acoustics, including his vital work on standards.
