NEC Australia achieve certification to BS 25999 | BSI Group

Press release - 2nd January 2012

NEC Australia (www.nec.com.au) becomes the first company in Australia to achieve Certification to the globally recognised Business Continuity Management Standard, BS 25999.

NEC Australia, a leading communications systems integrator delivering ICT, communications and network solutions to enterprises, government, small businesses and carriers, has become the first organisation in Australia to be certified to BS 25999-2 to ensure it has a robust business continuity management system in place.

BS 25999-2 was first published by BSI in 2007 and is the forerunner to the establishment of an International Business Continuity Standard, ISO 22301, scheduled for release in early 2012.

“NEC Australia understands the importance of developing a business continuity management system, and we are proud to be the first organisation in Australia to achieve this certification,” states Alan Hyde, Managing Director, NEC Australia. “We can now immediately undertake preventive and corrective steps necessary to protect our assets, following unexpected events such as natural disasters, terrorism and cybercrime, which is vital for the stability of both our business and our customer’s businesses.”

Following the creation of a comprehensive project plan NEC Australia achieved certification for the key services including the provisioning and management of 24*7 National Service Desk, Billing Services, Data Centre Services, Service Delivery Management, NECare Assurance Services, NECare Repair and Maintenance Services and Network Infrastructure Services. Beginning with a staff engagement phase, consisting of an intense in-house training and education programme, NEC completed an implementation phase, followed by a successful final audit which was led by BSI in combination with the Business Continuity Institute.

“Being the first to achieve certification to BS 25999 in Australia is a fantastic achievement for NEC. It is the culmination of great effort and leading edge thinking. It also marks the coming of age for business continuity within the Australian market,” says Shannon Lane, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, BSI Group ANZ.

BS 25999 certification demonstrates that a company’s business continuity management systems follow internationally recognised best-practice methodologies. The achievement of BS 25999 certification across the whole organisation is a positive commitment from NEC to deliver continuous and advanced IT/Network communication solutions and services to its customers.
