BSI British Standards teams up with Manchester United to promote sustainability in schools

BSI British Standards has teamed up with Manchester United Football Club to promote its GetGreenGo™ sustainable challenge for schools. Winners of GetGreenGo™ will get the chance to visit Old Trafford and find out about the sustainability initiatives taking place there.
GetGreenGo™ is a chance for schools to apply the principles of BS 8901, the BSI standard on sustainable event management, published last year. The standard provides events organizers with a framework within which to develop a system for managing the overall environmental, social and economic impact of an event. GetGreenGo™ takes BS 8901 as its starting point for encouraging schools to make existing events more sustainable, socially, economically and environmentally.
GetGreenGo™ entries so far include a workshop where pupils made products from food packaging and a tea party with fair-trade food and drink. As well as receiving prizes of up to £1,500, the nine winning schools will be invited to receive their awards in an exciting event held at Old Trafford. There is still plenty of time for schools to enter the competition before the 20 June closing date.

Manchester United is looking at the possibility of complying with BS 8901 in the future and is thrilled to have the opportunity to trial a sustainable event with the GetGreenGo™ Awards.”
