Kitemark® gives clear competitive advantage…

Press release - 22 May 2007

Fire Safe Services Ltd, of Bromsgrove, West Midlands have just been awarded a Kitemark licence for Fire Alarm Systems under the BSI Kitemark scheme based on BAFE scheme SP203.

The official presentation of this prestigious licence will take place at the BSI Product Services exhibition stand at the forthcoming International Fire Expo at the NEC, Birmingham from 21st – 24th May 2007.

Fire Safe Services Ltd was started 3 years ago in 2004 by Louise Dowell and Nicholas Fenton, both of whom have industry experience from larger organisations. Three years on and Fire Safe Services now employs 12 staff and have their own offices on Saxon Business Park, Stoke Prior near Bromsgrove.

“We believe that the benefits to us of having the Kitemark are an increased credibility within the industry. It will also reassure our current and prospective customers, allowing us to be considered for larger projects and so have the opportunity to increase turnover and profit” says Louise Dowell, Director, Fire Safe Services. “The Kitemark will clearly demonstrate that our company is recognised for its high values, good engineers and quality service – something that can only enhance our reputation. I would recommend the Kitemark to any company considering certification.”

The Kitemark Fire Alarm Systems scheme

The Kitemark Fire Alarm Systems scheme is designed to allow companies involved in the design, installation, commissioning and/ or maintenance of fire alarm and suppression systems to prove that they are competent and accredited and was designed by BSI to BAFE scheme SP203 for fire detection, alarm and suppression systems.

With many willing supporters, the scheme is set to become an industry standard for demonstrating capability in this field and proving to be a huge benefit for businesses who are now able to guarantee their customers that they can purchase confidently.

The scheme is a timely introduction to the market as the Fire Safety Order and the Fire (Scotland) Bill of October 2006 pull together virtually all existing fire safety regulations in a move which makes prevention of fire at least as important as fire precautions.

In addition the Chief Fire Officers Association in its drive to reduce false alarms has introduced a policy on attending call-outs by automatic alarms which means that alarms will need to be maintained by accredited third party installers.

Elaine Durno, Senior Product Manager, Kitemark Services, BSI says “We are delighted that Fire Safe Services are so inspired by their achievement. Their ability to recognise the market trends and to take action now to achieve this quality certification will give them a serious competitive advantage.”
