WEEE Directive requires an up-to-date BS EN 50419

For full compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, it is important that manufacturers, producers and distributors of electrical and electronic equipment within the EU have the most up-to-date version.

BS EN 50419:2006 Marking of electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with Article 11(2) of Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE) contains the marking requirements needed to meet the requirements of the WEEE Directive. 

The revised standard contains additional information relating to the marking requirements, including positioning, visibility, dimensions, location and referenced documents. The marking serves to clearly identify the producer of the equipment and that the equipment has been put on the market after 13 August 2005.

BS EN 50419:2006 supersedes BS EN 50419:2005 which has been withdrawn.

BS EN 50419:2006 is a comprehensive and wide-ranging piece of legislation that many companies mistakenly believe is either not applicable to, or does not affect them.  If you manufacture, brand, import, sell, store, treat or dismantle electrical or electronic products within the European Union (EU) the WEEE Directive will affect you.  The Directive comes into force in the UK on 1 January 2007.
