Shell Select BSI to Monitor Emissions Reductions

Shell U.K. Limited has appointed BSI to supply greenhouse gases verification (GHGV) from all data supplied by Shell operated UKCS installations for 2003. This is a key process for the UK Emissions Trading Scheme.

BSI secured the contract through Bureau Veritas, who recommended BSI due to its experience of handling key clients in the UK ETS market, such as DuPont, AGFA and BAE Systems.

The EU ETS is the world’s first mandatory Green House Gases emission cap and trade system. It directly coinsides with the EU’s commitment under the Kyoto Protocol, aiming to reduce the levels of GHG’s from 1990 by 8%.
The UK is committed under the Kyoto Protocol to reducing greenhouse gas production by 12.5% from 1990 levels by 2008 to 2012.
The UK scheme is the first national system for trading carbon emissions anywhere in the world which is open to any kind of company.
