Macquarie Corporate Telecom achieves information security award

PRESS RELEASE

April 17, 2002

Macquarie Corporate Telecom (www.mct.com.au) has become the first firm in Australia to achieve an international information security award. The award - BS 7799 registration - was presented by BSI, the global management system certification and quality assurance leader.

The certification is widely regarded as the ultimate industry benchmark in information security, and will reassure Macquarie's customers about the security of its data services. The BS 7799 award is for Macquarie's Intellicentre and backup site, both located in Sydney, New South Wales. The Intellicentre is an $AU 35million facility, capable of providing a broad array of data services for 40,000 firms throughout Australia and South East Asia.

Duncan Lilley, President of BSI Asia, said: "The services provided by the Intellicentre include data management, web-hosting, e-business, and multiple broadband access to the internet. BSI helped Macquarie conduct a thorough assessment of its information security management systems including policies, processes, training programmes and business continuity plans."

David Tudehope, CEO of Macquarie Corporate Telecoms, said: "We are delighted to have achieved this business first by becoming the first company in Australia to attain this benchmark industry standard. Our customers - an increasing number of corporate firms and government departments - are quite rightly demanding high standards, and BSI registration to BS 7799 shows our commitment to best practice. This is already delivering a market advantage to us, as we expand our data services to meet the challenges of the future."

In addition to this Australian first in information security, in 2000 Macquarie Corporate Telecoms won the Ovations Award in Washington DC for International Telecommunications Company of the Year for Business Services. The company is also Suntone accredited, EMC Proven accredited, and is a Microsoft Certified Partner.

BSI helps organisations get the most value from their management systems through registration to international standards by a process-driven auditing approach. In addition to registering firms to the information security standard, BSI registers organisations to standards covering the management of quality, environmental best practice, and occupational health and safety.
